Ringwood Celtics > Coaches

Coaches Information

This is general information that may be of use over the coming season. Please ensure that your Team Manager has a copy of this as well.

ALTERNATE SINGLETS
These are available from the club, please organise these as early in the week prior to the game as possible. You will need alternate singlets when your team is first listed on the fixture and you are playing another green uniform team, ie Ashwood, or another Celtics team. The team sheet does not have to be in numeric order if alternates are being worn, simply write alternates across the top of the sheet.

GRADING GAMES
As with every season the first five games are grading games. This means that we are able to adjust teams ourselves or ask the association to move our teams up or down grades as may be necessary to ensure our competitiveness. The grading games for each grade level have been clumped together so that the association's grade secretaries con observe as many games as possible to ensure that grade placements are correct and this is a good thing. This may mean some travelling to Oakleigh at the start of the season if that is where your team’s grading is to take place.

INJURIES
Any serious injury which occurs during a game needs to be written down either on the back of the score sheet, or in the injury book, which is at the front desk at Maroondah, ask at Nunawading for it at the office.

JEWELLERY
Players are not allowed to wear any sort of jewellery to games. This includes, rings, watches, earings, hard headbands, eyebrow rings, etc. This rule is for the players’ safety. It’s also a good idea to ban watches at training.

LACK OF PLAYERS
If you find yourself in a position of only having less than 5 players for a game, you can take players from the younger age group & in the same grade as your team. For example U14 C can only take players from U12 C. U16 B can only take from U14B or 14 C. etc. Any player that fills in must put their name & their normal team on the back of the score sheet. Having said all that if giving away a walk over can be avoided by playing from a higher grade, ie 14B get a player from 12A, do it. You will loose the points but you won’t get fined $60.

NEW PLAYERS
Players new to a team must go through the club registrar, Kerry Barnard, 9725 4940 before they play. At their first game they must put their name, address, DOB and signature on the back of the score sheet.

PARENTS
While they can be great, they can also make a coaches life difficult, particularly a young coach. If a parent is getting out of hand or intimidating, demanding more court time for their child, please let the appropriate Co-ordinator know & the club will sort out the problem.

PLAYERS NOT TURNING UP
If a player suddenly stops coming to training & games, please ring them and find out why. Again if there has been a misunderstanding or a problem within the team, let the Co-ordinator know & we will try to sort it out.

QUALIFING FOR FINALS
To qualify for finals, a player must have played half of the season including grading games. That is of there are 17 rounds players need to play 9 games. If a player does not score or foul during the game then they MUST sign the back of the score sheet so as to be credited with that game, please ask your team manager to ensure this happens ever week.

REFEREES
Each stadium should have a referee’s supervisor on duty. If you feel that you have a problem during a game, get a parent to go & get the supervisor.

TEAM MANAGERS
Your team manager is a valuable asset. They will do your sheet, collect the money & organise parents to score (all families are expected to score unless they are coaching or team managing). They are the only person other than the coach & players who are entitled to sit on the bench, if the coach wants them to.

TEAM SHEET
Your Team Manager should complete the team sheet each week. To assist them in keeping track on fees we have attached a team record sheet to record players that play and fees paid each week.

TRAINING
Try not to be in a position at training where you as the coach are the only adult in the building. Apart from the obvious issues that could arise, if you have an injury you will need assistance, not only with the injured player but also the rest of the team. Ask a parent to stay. Players should stay inside the venue until their ride arrives.

Please make sure Luther & Parkwood are locked if you are the last team to leave the venue.  If you cancel training or if the venue has been damaged, please let the club know immediately.

WALKOVERS
Each team is responsible for paying any walk over fines they incur, unless there are extenuating circumstances. In this circumstance you must contact the appropriate co-ordinator immediately after the scheduled game with the details. The fee is $60 and is payable at the stadium. The club cannot afford to pay these fines. You can take the court with 4 players.

ZONE DEFENCE
Up to & including under 12 no zone defence is to be played in the first half. The only exception is if a team has no subs.
